Stereotypes vs Prejudice

What's the difference between stereotypes and prejudice? The Danger of a Single Story by Chimamanda Adichie states that stereotypes is because of single stories. Stories with the same believe, in the same perspective. If stereotypes are because of the impression that was left, then is prejudice because of the words that were said? Adichie talked about the first time her American roommate saw her and the questions she asked was because of a single stories. But, wouldn't that also be prejudice, prejudice against foreigners and immigrants?
